Nonfiction essay

More writing! This time, however, it's the first part of my essay/introduction on the world of fairies in folklore and myth. Hopefully, one day, this essay will be part of my nonfictional, encyclopedic work on supernatural creatures from global myth, legend, and folklore. As always, comments and suggestions are welcome.

Forays into Ozzy Fanfic

I don't think any of you, my LJ friends, know that I write some of my own stories, including stories about Oz. Well, I may have hinted so here and there, but I've never made it explicit. Anyway, I realized that I need some beta-readers for my work, and who better than fellow Oz fans and rp/fanfic writers? Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated! By the way, I myself have no idea who the "Gloomy Knight" is yet, and any ideas would be very helpful. The character of Jellia Jamb may change to another famous, but under-used, female Ozite by the end of this.

Gilda the Good Witch of the Midwest

Not many people under the age of 30 remember Gilda Radner, but I think she's one of the funniest comedians that ever lived. That's right, comedian, not comedienne, because I think the true "funny" women deserve to be equal with their male counterparts. It's too bad she died at such a young age. My parents saw her in a restaurant once; however, I think they were too dumbfounded to say hello to her. Anyway, here's a few videos of her best work:

With friends like this, who needs enemies?

Oh lord, some kid I became friends with months ago on a chatroom and since then have talked to on AIM and over the phone is now apparently my mortal enemy. I haven't done anything different since I first met him and have always been a supportive friend. But he found some amazingly "perfect" boyfriend that changed his mind about life, including being friends with me. I have no idea what's going on with him and why he's being a jerk to me. (Though I'll admit that I've been a jerk in response.)

Here's the latest (and probably last) conservation between him and I. Wilby is the current boyfriend and John and Mike are ex-boyfriends.

And that's the last of it. If someone could help me out with the Japanese that would be nice. I doubt it's anything pleasant though.

I hate gay people.

Things That Go Bump In The Night

As Halloween is swiftly approaching (and I even saw Christmas trees set up in a local craft store), I have a mind to draw some bogies and boggarts. What are they, you ask? Well, bogies and boggarts are fairy-like creatures that are used by parents to scare children, like the ghoul that lived under your bed as a kid. So, anyway, I'm at a lost for ideas of what to draw. I'm asking all my LJ friends for some clever, detailed ideas for some bogies and boggarts. Remember, bogies and boggarts are mostly meant to scare children, so they should be Halloween-y and kooky, but not too scary. Being slightly anthropomorphic or humanoid is great, too.

Acceptable influences for ideas: Nightmare Before Christmas, "Pink Elephants on Parade" from Dumbo, "Borogoves and Mome Raths" from Alice in Wonderland, Dr. Seuss, Edward Gorey, Ghostbusters (the animated series from the 80s), Addams Family, Heartless from Kingdom Hearts

Non-acceptable ideas: Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien, Predator, Cthulhu and other H.P. Lovecraft creatures, Star Wars, Star Trek *no aliens please!*

Thanks in advance for everyone's ideas!

Personal Update

This is copy-pasted from MySpace, but with a few edits:

Wow! I haven't filled this thing out in ages. On top of that, I haven't been on LiveJournal that much over the summer either. Other things have become more important, I guess. So what's been going on with me? For all of those who don't know and have been wondering (ha, I bet it's not that many people), lots have happened since my last post.

First of all, I finally graduated from Moraine Valley Community College in May. I received my degree in Associate in Science with little difficulty. The only snag was getting my high school transcript sent to Moraine. I got lucky, because Stagg decided not to charge me for the transcript. Since I'm so nice and oh-so-desperate-for-a-wittle-degwee perhaps? Whatever.

I've been complaining about not having a job for ages, far longer than just the summer, yet at the same time I hadn't been doing much about it. Sorry, people, but I like to be lazy and it takes a lot to get me motivated. So just when I thought I would never get a job--and definitely not a decent one--my sister found an ad in the newspaper looking for teacher's aides at a school 2 miles away. I was really intrigued that here was this job I had been dreaming for and didn't believe I could land this school year. (My major is Biology with Secondary Education, by the way.) So I sent an e-mail explaining my background and sent the very simple application by fax. So after an interview, drug testing, TB shot, fingerprinting, a physical exam, and more paperwork, I finally got the job as an aide. YAY!!!

So this year I'll be working as a teacher's aide at a school for just special ed kids, only a few streets away. It couldn't be a closer and easier-to-find place. I'll be in a classroom with one very nice teacher, another new aide (and another new one after a few months), an experienced aide, and 6 autistic kids (5 boys and 1 girl). I just finished the first month of school, and the kids are crazy. I've already had numerous bruises and scratches and cuts from kids hitting, kicking, scratching, and biting. Yes; biting! However, I do enjoy my time there, as everyone I work with is friendly and helpful. I assist the kids all day, from helping them off the bus in the morning to getting back on the bus in the afternoon. In fact, I'll see these kids more than the teacher and some of the parents! Daytime activities include, gym, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, gym, music, art, swimming, and very basic academic skills. I don't know where there's time to fit all the activities in!

In social news, I haven't gone out at all this summer, but I hope to as the school year continues and I have money to spend. Still no girlfriend or boyfriend, but I am looking. So if you or any of your friends are looking, too, send them my way! They can pick up applications at the door Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6pm Central Time.

Anyway, I hope to hear more from you guys and I'll do my best to get online more often.

Wow, it's been rather long since I last posted on here. I'm sorry about that. Well, I went on my trip to Disney World and I've been back for a couple weeks now. For the short time that I went there (3.5 days), I had a lot of fun and I went on practically every ride/show that I wanted to go on. The Enchanted Tiki Room is the only thing I really missed. I wanted to see what it was like with the new birds (Zazu and Iago), plus the Tiki Room Song is one of my favorites. "Where the birds all sing and the flowers bloom, in the tiki tiki tiki tiki room." XD Otherwise, it's been relatively normal around here. Read: boring as boring can be. It snowed a lot over the last couple weeks. In fact, it's snowing again as I type this.

I have grade updates! I got back exams and my daily grades last week.
Life Drawing (figure drawing): A
Geology: A
Organic Chemistry: 74% on the first exam
74% isn't that bad, but I know I could have/should have done better. I really need to keep up with the homework and note-taking for the next round. The lab part of Organic has been all right. I got 19/20 on the first experiment.

I didn't really want to do another meme so soon, but I have one for this post too. Unless you want me to ask you five random questions (what the meme is about), I'm not posting it up here. I kinda fell behind with doing responses for the last meme. Anyway, here's the questions vovat asked me and my answers:

Cuz Kelsey did it for me...

Comment, and...
1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll challenge you to try something.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this in your journal.
P.S. If you did this meme already, you don't have to post it in your journal.

For the record...

I still have chocolate mint candy canes left over from Christmas. I've only eaten four so far. Anybody want one?

Geology class was fun today. We got to identify ROCKS. Yay! Wheee! Aren't you so proud that I can tell the difference between pyrite and chalcopyrite now? Yeah, on top of needing to memorize 20+ different types of rocks/minerals, I also have to memorize 20 organic compound groups and 10 carbon chains (butane, methane, hexane, etc.). All by the first exam. Oh yeah, I'm gonna have a fun semester. DX

Someone who knows how to do this stuff and likes Final Fantasy:

Tonight on my way home from school, I had the radio on. As I was getting to my house, it started playing the Violent Femmes..."Day by Day" I think, or is the title "Add It Up"? I dunno, but it's probably their most popular song. Anyway, I was listening to the lyrics, and I thought: "Hey, this would be great as background music for a Laguna/Leon-Squall ship." There are lines like "Don't shoot that gun at me" and "Look at what your son has done", while being a (sort-of) love song. Okay, yeah, I know, it's a really a song about fucking your brains out. But you get the point. XD And what's a better song than that for Laguna/Squall romance? I can't think of anything else. SO, those of you who have movie-making skills, take out your FF7 FMVs and splice together some scenes of Laguna and Squall with the Violent Femmes as background music. Hop to it! Hut hut!
